Today I write with exciting news. Because of the generosity of people like you who value the work of the Coalition of Essential Schools, the CES Executive Board has authorized the hiring of Jill Davidson to serve as our Managing Director. Jill's CES roots and expertise run deep; previously CES’s Publications Director and most recently the Interim Executive Director, she will be working part-time to coordinate CES activities, including the Fall Forum in Providence, Rhode Island on November 11-12, 2011.
Who would have believed it?
Just over two months ago, the CES Executive Board was gravely concerned about the organization’s financial future. That was when we came to you, the teachers, administrators, parents, and students who have lived and breathed CES and asked for help. And you responded.
To date, we have received contributions from CES friends in 22 states and Canada. These gifts have ranged from monthly pledges of $10 to checks for over $10,000. Every one of these has been important, and they have given us the confidence to move on.
Due to this success, we are approaching the end of this phase of CES’s fundraising drive. However, we are not there yet. The work is not yet done, so I am asking those of you who have been waiting to give or perhaps have been sitting on the sidelines to step up right now. Before you forget about it, just click here to make your donation to CES safely and securely online. If you prefer, please send a check to:

I also want to take a moment to thank the CES Centers and affiliated organizations that responded with assistance. We are grateful to Great Schools Partnership for administrative support, Eagle Rock School and Professional Development Center for housing and distributing CES materials, and Big Picture Learning for Fall Forum 2011 hosting.
In the coming weeks, you will be hearing from Jill and me about how you can help envision the future of CES. And please plan now for your school or center to affiliate with CES. We’ll be sharing specific 2011-2012 affiliation benefits and other information soon.
For now, on behalf of the members of the CES Executive Board--Misha Lesley, Deborah Meier, Linda Nathan, Nancy Gutierrez, and myself--please accept my sincerest thanks for everything you have done to keep the ideas of CES alive and vibrant, not just through our national voice but through what you do every day in your classrooms.
With hope,
George Wood
President, CES Executive Board
Principal, Federal Hocking Secondary School
P.S.: If you have already given, think about giving again, come on, you can do it, just click here.
P.P.S.: If you have pledged to give and have not yet fulfilled that pledge, please do so now, we are counting on your gift to meet our budget.
