Relevant Work Experience:

2007-Present. Seventh grade advisor/teacher at Innovations Public Charter School, Kailua-Kona, HI. I am currently doing teacher led project based learning. Developing lesson plans for a teacher led project looking into the immigration of different ethnic groups to Hawaii. I have also continued teaching math using Logo and other techniques. Currently, I have been introducing calculus to seventh graders as a result of questions they have brought up in class about the nature of gravity. It has opened my eyes to the possibilities for math education. I am also coaching a Botball team. 2001-2007. Mathematics teacher at the Liberty School in Blue Hill, Maine. Teaching all subjects in mathematics from general mathematics through Calculus. In addition I have taught courses in: Robotics, using the Lego RCX, Microworlds, a Logo programming language written by Seymour Papert (Mindstorms) at MIT and NQC, a C-like programming language used to program the RCX; and C and BASIC programming languages. I have also taught students how to install and configure Windows and Linux operating systems, and use spreadsheet, presentation, and basic word processing software. I have worked closely with Dr. Seymour Papert, professor Emeritus of MIT's Media Learning Center, towards developing a new mathematics curriculum. Currently, I am teaching, along with other subjects, NetLogo, a variant of Logo, suitable for modeling scientific and social phenomena. I have also taught the history of science and the history of the Depression and World War Two. In the summer of 2006 I attended the EdVision's Summer Institute for Project Based Learning, where with four other colleagues we learned about PBL and how to convert our curriculum to PBL.

1992-2001. Maintenance and building contractor serving Hancock County, Maine.


1991-1992. Counselor at Homestead, a residential treatment center for adolescents in Ellsworth, Maine. Duties included supervising youths and helping them with their studies. 1986-1991. Employed as a carpenter for various contractors in Hancock County, Maine.

1985-1986. Math teacher at Penobscot Vocational School, Bangor, Maine. Position supported by federal grant for one year. Supported the shop teachers by teaching math classes to their students placing the emphasis on the math they needed to learn their trades.

1979-1984. Computer programmer for Max Levy & Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Programming in Fortran and Assembler for a high accuracy plotter used to generate master artwork for fine optics as well as diffraction gradings for optical scanners along with other projects.




Skills & Abilities:
Can teach Arithmetic to Calculus. I also teach the programming languages BASIC, C++, Fortran and a few versions of LOGO. I have also taught Spreadsheets, Powerpoint, GIMP (digital imaging) and Blender (3D animation and modeling).

Additional Information:
I would desire a position in a small school that either has or is interested in developing a collaborative teacher practice and strong advisories. I am a constructionist in my approach toward education, having been instructed personally by Professor Seymour Papert. I would very much like to share my experiences with others to promote Constructionism
