Student As Intellectual: Using Paideia Seminars to Foster a Love of Deliberation
Facilitator(s): Eric Westendorf

Workshop   +   Classroom Practice: curriculum & instruction   +   Everyone
How can we get students excited about intellectual discussions? This workshop will focus on Paideia seminars as a vehicle for inspiring intellectual deliberation. If you are interested in seminars, or just interested in a good intellectual discussion yourself, come join us. After taking part in a seminar about school reform, participants will discuss the important elements of a Paideia seminar. What are its essential characteristics? What can a teacher do to increase the likelihood that a seminar will come to life? What are the different ways seminars can be used in schools? Participants will also receive a list of texts, lesson plans, and assessment tools used at Exploris Middle School in Raleigh, NC.
Date/Time: Saturday, 10:30am - 12:30pm   Room: CC 206   Session #122
