Operation Bookworm: Connecting Schools, Parents, and Communities
Facilitator(s): Ellen Gordon, Joanne D'Angelo

Workshop   +   Community Connections: community as resource   +   Everyone
Are you looking for a way to improve literacy, educate parents, and involve more community members in your school? Operation Bookworm will help you achieve these goals! Operation Bookworm is a volunteer program that brings parents, community members, and high school students into the elementary schools to provide extra reading experiences for K-2 students. Participants will learn how to implement the program, access the community as a resource, train volunteers, use materials, and troubleshoot problems. We will also discuss the added benefits this program gives to parents and grandparents as they work with their own children on reading and literacy.
