| Workshop + Community Connections: community as resource + High School |
| Traditional responses to "senioritis" and poor preparation for college and work include resignation, calls for colleges to rescind admissions of seniors who "slack off," and allowing students to graduate early. In this workshop, experienced practitioners, program graduates, and researchers will describe highly successful programs that mobilize the collaboration of teachers, students, parents, and community to make the senior year a logical and meaningful bridge to college or work. Students of all ability levels engage in rigorous, passion-driven projects in real-world settings, documenting their work in reflective journals and public presentations. We will discuss the final report of The National Commission on the High School Senior Year, and show how your district can turn the senior year into an empowering transition to adulthood. |
