Workshop   +   Community Connections: community as resource   +   Everyone
In this workshop, participants will perform an authentic work activity under the guidance of the facilitators and students from a Seattle-based educational bicycle shop called Bike Works. Participants will use that experience to explore the role of intercultural understanding between students and teachers in building effective curriculum. Participants will discuss using bicycle curriculum to explore: (1) tools for problem solving and self-teaching; (2) core knowledge concepts such as systems, process, technology, and inquiry; (3) social and technical issues such as environmental quality, transportation, community geography; and (4) some of the science, mathematics, and language skills used to address these issues.
