Making Large High Schools Smaller: A Question of Equity and Personalization
Facilitator(s): Jose Martinez, Steve Jubb, LaShawn Route-Chatmon, Liz Sullivan

Workshop   +   School Design: structures   +   High School
This session starts with the story of a failing Oakland high school that has just begun, with the help of community organizing, to implement a bold plan to subdivide itself into "wall to wall" smaller learning communities (SLCs). Participants will use a rubric and a set of design criteria to learn how to create SLCs that can personalize education for students and facilitate more equitable teaching and learning. Participants will have an opportunity to assess their own SLC ideas using these tools and to share their own experiences in creating SLCs.
Date/Time: Saturday, 8:00am - 10:00am   Room: CC 607   Session #282
