Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in Washington State: Lessons from a University-Community Partnership
Facilitator(s): Ricardo Sanchez, Tom Stritikus

Workshop   +   Classroom Practice: curriculum & instruction   +   Everyone
This interactive session for K-12 teachers, counselors, and administrators provides an overview of the knowledge base envisioned for K-12 staff with linguistically and culturally diverse students. It will demonstrate how the University of Washington's College of Education is providing for this knowledge base and will cover areas such as second language acquisition, legal issues, cultural diversity, classroom methods, and assessment. In addition, the session will outline the collaborative work done between the UW and the Latino/a Educational Achievement Project. We also hope to inform participants about the key issues facing recent immigrant populations in Washington State. There will be opportunities at the end of the session for questions and answers.
Date/Time: Friday, 8:00am - 10:00am   Room: CC 608   Session #295
