Day-Long Session: A Meaningful and Manageable Approach to Action Research in Professional Learning Communities
Facilitator(s): Heidi Brewer, Heidi Early, John Newlin, Jean Haeger

Pre-Conference   +   School Design: teacher collaboration & learning   +   Everyone
Schools that wish to engage large numbers of teachers in action research focused on classroom practice usually find this process to be unmanageable within the time given for professional development. This is often true even if the school has already made time for Critical Friends Groups (CFGs) or other professional learning groups to meet. The Southern Maine Partnership (a CES regional center) and three Maine high schools have found that by using simple tools with colleagues in a professional learning community, action research can be both meaningful and manageable. Participants in this session will gain direct experience with this approach and a leave with a variety of tools they can use and share in their schools.
