Principles in Action: Infusing Equity into Assessment
Facilitator(s): Melinda Simons
| Workshop + Classroom Practice: assessment + Middle School |
| Equity in schools goes beyond the curriculum that is being taught and programs that are being offered. It also encompasses the practices and pedagogy that are used in the classroom. For instance, are the ways that information is being assessed equitable? Do they allow for a diverse set of learners to succeed? Together, teachers and students in this workshop will discuss these ideas. Facilitators will then explore some common assessment methods, and participants will examine their level of equatability. Finally, facilitators will share some assessments that do break down these artificial barriers to success and participants will create some of their own. |
