Mission:  The goal of the Coalition of Essential Schools - New Jersey (CES-NJ) is to advance high achievement and deep understanding for all students through supporting schools' efforts to put the Common Principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools into practice. CES NJ works in partnership with a network of 78 New Jersey public schools serving approximately 54000 students. We focus on engaging and challenging students, encouraging reflection and collaboration among educational professionals, working for systemic change through partnerships with school and dsitrict leaders, and involving parents and community in the effort to enhance student learning and achievement. We are committed to data driven decision making as a fundamental component of continuous school improvement. We deeply believe in each student's right to a quality education and and recognize that true school change requires steadfast advocacy for equity in educational support to all communities.
Services/Strategies:  CES NJ offers coaching, Summer TREKS, Leadership Institutes, workshops, CES-NJ membership and a broad range of targeted assistance to help schools enhance teaching and learning, refashion organizational design and develop meaningful community connections. Each school chooses its own programs suited to its particular students, faculty, and community. Specific areas of focus include general instructional stategies (such as Project Based Learning), content and standards based instructional support, Collaborative Friends Groups, data collection and analysis, Action Research, principal mentoring, change management and many others. We also offer an annual statewide conference as well as various other networking opportunities for educational professionals. CESP is also a regional provider for other nationally recognized school improvement strategies and models including AVID, Responsive Classrooom and Project Based Learning.
