Managing Local Public Debates Over School Reform

Workshop   +   Community Connections   +   Everyone
Research and anecdotal evidence show that many attempts at local public school reform are defeated by community groups who fear change. Evidence further suggests that school leaders are hesitating to propose reform because they fear such opposition. This workshop will arm participants with strategies (how to use data to their advantage, how to structure conversations, how to convert resisters, etc.) and frameworks (patterns that have been borne out in research) that will enable them to focus public debates over educational reform in their communities. Participants will have the opportunity to role-play and apply these various strategies and frameworks.
