Dropping the Bomb: Using History and Science to Explore Ethical Decision-Making

Workshop   +   Curriculum & Instruction   +   High School
Through an integrated history/physics unit at New Mission High, students investigated the technological and historical issues surrounding the dropping of the atom bomb over Japan in 1945. While students tend to have strong opinions about ethical issues, they need guidance in understanding and developing the framework by which to make ethical decisions. We will share our curriculum and the planning process. Participants will investigate and practice a process for developing curriculum centered around ethical issues related to technology. Participants will also be given an ethical question and begin the process of developing a curriculum unit centered around that question.
