Making Teachers Welcome: How Coalition Schools Can Best Support New Faculty

Roundtable   +   Managing Whole School Change   +   Everyone
Each year CES schools welcome thousands of new teachers to their faculties. While some of these new teachers arrive already familiar with the Principles and practices of the Coalition of Essential Schools, many do not. How to best support the needs of these talented and dedicated educators, with their diverse teaching backgrounds, life experiences, and interests is a challenge that CES schools all face. This roundtable will engage participants in a discussion of the Essential Question "How can we help teachers new to CES schools feel welcome and become equal participants working for reform in those schools?" We will share one model being used, discuss the needs of new teachers, develop steps to evaluate programs currently in use and modify them to better meet the needs of our schools' new teachers.
