Accountability: A Learner-Centered Approach

Workshop   +   Assessment   +   Everyone
Often missing from the current national conversation regarding standardized testing and "holding schools accountable" is the concept of using assessment to support student understanding and guide instructional practice. The accountability systems under development in six high schools in the Southern Maine Partnership work toward meeting this educational need. These systems will enable each school to better understand the learning of their students both at the individual and collective levels, and the impact of classroom and whole school practices and structures on this learning. Using this information, the school will be better able to tailor instructional practices to the unique needs of each student and to the collective needs of the student body.
