A Coalescence of Essential Systems: Our CES Approach to High School Science
|
| Workshop + Curriculum & Instruction + High School |
| A commitment to the use of essential questions, to meeting New Jersey and national science standards, to Coalition principles and to teaching science from a systems perspective: these commitments guided Kinnelon High School to design two innovative science courses. Geophysical Systems (ninth grade), integrates traditional physics, math and earth science knowledge and skills. Biochemical Systems (tenth grade), integrates relevant chemistry and biology knowledge and skills. Both motivate students through the use of essential questions such as, "How do you distinguish the living from the nonliving?" Participation in this workshop will simulate the process involved in the development of a curriculum that is based on several Coalition principles.
