Standards, History and Social Studies Portfolios

Workshop   +   Assessment   +   High School
What should students know about American and global history when they graduate? This workshop will address this question by examining the New York State standards in relation to Satellite Academy's graduation portfolios in social studies. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to join in a student presentation and defense of portfolio, as well as to offer feedback on the procedure. Participants will also reflect on their own school's exit criteria for social studies and brainstorm methods to improve their graduation requirements. Everyone will share their thoughts and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of their various requirements as well as the problems inherent in determining what students know when they leave high school.
