Translating Theory and Experience Into Practice: Would Dewey Make a Case for Both Autonomy and Collaboration?

Workshop   +   Cycle of Inquiry   +   Everyone
In the current atmosphere of dissatisfaction with the American educational system, thoughtful practitioners must evaluate their own performance within the discourse of educational reform. Educators are revisiting the works of John Dewey, who offered major insights into human thought, experience, and reflection (Tanner, 1997). Teachers are challenged to translate theory and their own experiences into their practice as reflective practitioners. In addition, however, CES teachers must work with their colleages in building a culture of collaboration of shared ideas. What is to be done? In this workshop we will explore our own philosophies and examine strategies for collaboration. Come prepared to talk, write, share, and reflect!
