Anatomy of a "Novel" Novel: Constructing Innovative Lesson Plans Using Literature

Workshop   +   Curriculum & Instruction   +   Middle School
"Who done it?" Teachers are expected to do it daily--that is, structure educational, purposeful, yet interesting lesson plans for a wide variety of ability groups. What to do when there is no commercially prepared teacher's guide? Good teachers look for innovative techniques to interest their students in literature, whether it's a biography for science enrichment, or historical fiction to better set the stage for the Civil War Unit. Using Joan Lowrey Nixon's newest (novel) murder mystery, "Shadowmaker", participants will learn to recognize teachable, thematic strands and discover what to do with them! Be prepared to be fingerprinted and to find out who done it!
