Kid Writing: A Systematic Approach to Teaching Writing in the Early Primary Classroom
|
| Workshop + Curriculum & Instruction + Elementary School |
| Welcome to the world of children's writing! As you invite young students to write, you join a national group of teachers who recognize that if "Essential Teaching and Learning" is to occur, then teachers must use methods that are developmentally appropriate, instructionally sound, and that include the important component of authenticity. In this workshop, participants will become acquainted with effective writing strategies that include the integration of journal writing, writing workshop and a contextual approach to phonics instruction. They will practice using assessments that guide this type of teaching. With an emphasis on the primary classroom, this workshop is structured for teachers of emergent and early writers, who will "demonstrate mastery through exhibition" by self-editing, publishing and sharing their writing. |
