We All Teach Natural Science, But What About the Nature of Science? |

| The nature of science (NOS) is more than the scientific method: it addresses what scientific "knowledge" is, how it is developed, and factors that influence its development. Do our students truly understand the NOS? Can they think scientifically? In this roundtable, we will discuss the NOS and how it is conveyed at our respective institutions. At Gilmour Academy we have developed an experiential program called Catalyst to address such issues. High school students are placed in the labs of prominent community scientists, where they are responsible for proactive participation in ongoing projects. We will share our methods, tools, outcomes, and advice. |
