Competencies That Count: Strategies for Assessing High-Performance Skills and "Habits of Mind"

Workshop   +   Assessment   +   High School
Although "habits of mind" and high-performance competencies, such as communication and problem-solving, are critical to college and career success, they are difficult to measure. Fortunately, there are a variety of strategies available from the youth development, adult transition, and workforce development fields that can supplement the tools schools normally use to assess these skills. In this workshop, participants will view a video produced by WGBH-TV that shows high school students at work on advanced field biology projects. We will also experiment with different instruments to determine which skills and "habits of mind" are best captured in each type of assessment.
