Are Parents Problems or Partners? Why Parents Complain and How to Build Their Support for Change

Workshop   +   Community Connections   +   Everyone
Implement a change, and parents complain. Reform usually means dealing with parents who do not like what is going on. When some join in protest, they become a powerful barrier to change. Data collected from interviews reveals surprising information about parents' real concerns about changes made in their childrens' schools. Through individual activities and small group discussion, workshop participants learn how to transform "problem parents" into potential partners. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of parents' perspectives in their schools, begin personal action plans to address parents' likely concerns, and will have additional resources for collaborating with parents to make schools more effective for students.
