Creating Student Voice and Learning to Listen

Workshop   +   Managing Whole School Change   +   High School
Nelson Beaudoin, the principal of Leavitt Area High School, was recently named Maine's principal of the year. He has a powerful ability to engage students in developing a collaborative, caring environment. He and students from Leavitt will share how they are working to increase student voice in their high school. Included topics that will be presented include: our "open session" legislative model, peer mediation team, civil rights program, student leadership team, and how we use our advisory program, Hornet Prime Time (HPT), to provide students a forum for school discussions. Participants will get an overview of each program in a station-to-station format, followed by extensive time to meet our students, ask questions, and explore how these methods can be adapted to their situation.
