It's Human Nature: Creating a Safe, Open, Honest, and Intellectually Stimulating Classroom

Workshop   +   Curriculum & Instruction   +   High School
How does one create a truly safe, open, tolerant, and intellectually stimulating classroom in a heterogeneous setting? How can teachers and students engage in honest, critical conversations about controversial topics while maintaining an atmosphere of "trust and decency"? The Human Nature course integrates history, philosophy, psychology, theology, science, and literature in an attempt to answer the essential question, "What does it mean to be human?" Presenters will share resources, lessons, activities and assessments used in this course to create a classroom where a free exchange of ideas can occur and where students can respectfully challenge one another's ideas.
