Crossing Borders: Integrating English and Social Studies Curricula Within a Study of U.S. Immigration
|
| Workshop + Curriculum & Instruction + High School |
| An English and social studies teacher use an essential question to grapple with the skills and understandings that they expect of students--and of each other--through the course of an interdisciplinary unit.
Planning backwards from a student final exhibition pamphlet, this workshop explores the unit's opportunities for researching, interviewing, using technology, and sharing family histories. In it, we explore the dynamic, ongoing relationship between American culture and immigration. Preceding the final pamphlet exhibition, a student gallery exhibition of family artifacts and stories related to U.S. immigration illuminates personal connections to the myriad paths and cultures composing American life and history. |
