| Across the country, mayoral control is the flavor of the month. In New York, Chicago, DC, and elsewhere, politically savvy mayors control the selection of chief school administrators and often take the lead to push test-driven educational initiatives. How do kids, teachers, and parents fare under the increased involvement of non-educators in shaping educational policy? What are the implications for progressive-minded educators? This session will explore such questions and some strategies for implementing an effective response. Panelists include: Deborah Meier, Ann Cook, and Mike Klonsky. |
