1. Fall Forum 2004
Announcing the CES Fall Forum 2004 Equitable Schools for a New Democracy
November 11-13, San Francisco, California
San Francisco Marriott Hotel
Join us in a celebration of the Coalition of Essential Schools' 20th anniversary as educators, parents, students, and leading thinkers in education meet to exchange ideas, ask questions, and share insights from schools around the world. This year, we focus on creating a new system of schools in which all students regardless of race, class, or gender achieve their full potential, gain the skills they need, and develop a passion for contributing to an active democracy.
For more details, visit: www.essentialschools.org
Look for the Call for Proposals for conference sessions to be distributed in mid-May.
Applications will be accepted from late May through the end of June.
Conference registration will open in late August.
2. Early-bird Affiliation with CES National NEW BENEFITS THIS YEAR
As the current affiliation year comes to a close, we hope you and your schools will choose to join the CES National network for the 2004-05 affiliation year, which begins on August 1. Schools that affiliate with CES National before June 1st can save $50 off the regular affiliation fee. To become a 2004-05 CES National Affiliate, schools must complete or update the school profile on the CES Web site and pay the early-bird affiliation fee of $450 by June 1st ($500 if after June 1st).
CES National's affiliation program encourages schools to indicate their commitment to the CES Common Principles and to express their support for goals of the national network. In exchange, CES National provides benefits and resources to schools that are doing the hard work of CES reform. Those benefits include:
1. Connection with a powerful national school reform movement
2. Opportunities for national recognition in Horace, the CES quarterly journal, and on the CES Web site
3. Eligibility to apply for CES National research and professional development grants
4. Eligibility for one fee waiver per session for facilitators at Fall Forum (worth up to $1200)*
5. Ten subscriptions to Horace
6. One CES Poster (for new affiliates only)
7. One Collected Horace set (for new affiliates only)
8. DISCOUNTED REGISTRATION FEES AT FALL FORUM (NEW THIS YEAR)
* Each affiliate school can receive up to 3 facilitator fee waivers - one per session.
This year, we have introduced an additional benefit discounted registration fees at Fall Forum for school staff and parents. Each registrant from an affiliated school will receive $75 off the general conference registration fee and $15 off the pre-conference fee. In addition, for this affiliation year only, all schools affiliating for first time will receive a copy of Deborah Meier's recent book, In Schools We Trust.
Additional information about CES National School Affiliation is available at http://www.essentialschools.org/pub/ces_docs/schools/affil/overview.html
Individuals who are NOT ASSOCIATED WITH A SCHOOL OR REGIONAL CENTER may affiliate as a CES National Affiliate Friend. Benefits include:
1. One subscription to Horace, our quarterly journal
2. Eligibility for a $100 discount on the Fall Forum registration fee for session facilitators
3. DISCOUNTED REGISTRATION FEE AT FALL FORUM (NEW THIS YEAR)
Friends are asked to create or update their profile on the CES Web site and pay an annual fee of $75. Additional information about friend affiliation is available at
