| Message: | Dear CES Colleague,
An urgent matter has come up involving the welfare of four CES schools in New York City and we ask you to get involved.
The Julia Richman Education Complex (JREC) is a formerly large high-school building in New York City that houses six schools, including four CES member schools. Staff, students, and parents at the Complex recently learned that the building is threatened with demolition. The plan is for the New York Department of Education to turn the property over to Hunter College, which would tear down JREC and build a science building on the site; in return, Hunter is supposed to build a replacement school on land it owns elsewhere.
The JREC community is united in its opposition to this plan and urgently needs your help. For all of you who have visited the Complex over the past ten years, who may have heard or read about JREC, or who care about preserving effective examples of how to transform large buildings into multiple small schools, we ask you to send an email to Mayor Bloomberg, NYC School Chancellor Joel Klein, and CUNY Chancellor Matthew Goldstein to urge them to protect JREC.
Please click on the link below to complete a short form and send the email.
