1. MAY IS NATIONAL EXHIBITION MONTH
Join CES in a nation-wide campaign to promote and celebrate exhibitions as a preferred form of student assessment. Now in its second year, "National Exhibition Month," designated by CES National as the month of May, is an annual campaign in which schools and support organizations are invited to participate in activities that make their exhibition work public and to advocate for the use of exhibitions in their local contexts.
On our website we have developed a set of guidelines and tools to help you in creating a successful local event and in doing outreach to the public and the media. In addition, we have a video clip from the EssentialVisions DVD that shows students preparing for and executing their senior exhibition. The materials include:
A PDF of the Exhibition Month Fact Sheet
A Guide for Creating a Successful Local Event
A Set of Student Guidelines for Preparing for an Exhibition
An Advocacy Action Kit
Sample Advocacy Tools
To view these materials, as well as for more information, and suggestions on how you can participate, please visit: http://www.essentialschools.org/exhibition.html.
2. FALL FORUM CALL FOR PROPOSALS
CES National is now accepting proposals for Fall Forum 2007, which will be held in Denver, Colorado, November 8-10, at the Adams Mark Denver Hotel. This year's theme is "A Principled Stand." Proposals are due May 14th.
This year, we explore what it means to take a stand for the relationships, pedagogy, structures, and policies that create and sustain personalized, equitable, and intellectually challenging schools for all of our children. K-12 educators, students, parents, and other leading thinkers in education meet at Fall Forum to collaborate and inspire school transformation.
Please note that the period during which CES National will be accepting applications is one month earlier this year, so be sure to submit them before the deadline on May 14th. Conference registration will open in mid-August. To learn more about Fall Forum, visit: http://www.essentialschools.org/fallforum.html.
3. "WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?" FALL FORUM 2007
With this year's Fall Forum theme being "A Principled Stand," we are interested in collecting comments from around the CES network about what people stand for. We plan to use these short comments in conference materials, on our website in the coming months, and at the conference itself. To submit a comment, please visit:
http://www.essentialschools.org/cs/cestop/create/ces_stand.
4. AFFILIATE WITH CES NATIONAL EARLY AND SAVE!
It's time to establish or renew your affiliation with the CES network for the 2007-08 year, which begins on August 1. To become a 2007-08 CES National Affiliate, schools and organizations must complete and/or update their profiles on the CES website and pay the early-bird affiliation fee of $450 by June 30th.
If you're not associated with a school, center, district, or organization, you can affiliate too! To become an Individual Affiliate, or to renew your status, please create or update your profile on the CES website and pay the annual affiliation fee of $75.
Remember, in order to register for the Fall Forum or other CES conferences at affiliate rates or to claim fee waivers, you or your school/organization must be affiliated and have paid dues by the time you register. To take advantage of these registration discounts, we recommend that you complete or renew your affiliation by August 15, 2007.
