CES National Programs and Services
CES National, based in Oakland, California, provides national networking and professional development opportunities, conducts research, and advocates for public policies which support our vision of education. Our current initiatives and ongoing resources include:
CES National Affiliation
Schools, organizations and individuals that affiliate with CES National lend their voices to the effort to create an educational system that promotes personalization, equity, and academic challenge for all students. CES Small Schools Network
Sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the CES Small Schools Network launches new small high schools and supports high school conversion through mentorship from exemplary CES schools. The CES Small Schools Network includes an annual Summer Institute and ongoing network meetings for new, redesigning, and mentor schools. read on >>
CES Benchmarks
A set of 14 qualities of Essential schools that describe those practices that are aligned with the CES principles, the CES Benchmarks are designed to help educators understand and implement the critical elements of high achieving and equitable CES schools.read on >>
Fall Forum
Each year, we convene over 2,000 teachers, administrators, parents, students, and leading thinkers in education to exchange ideas, ask questions, and share insights and effective practices from schools around the country. read on >>

Research
CES National supports a variety of research activities, including the publication of the book Choosing Small: The Essential Guide to Successful High School Conversion , the Theodore R. Sizer Dissertation Scholars Grant Program to encourage a new generation of scholars and educational researchers examining CES schools and practices, and the dissemination of ongoing research from Affiliate Centers. read on >>
Advocacy
CES National works with the national media and with other educational organizations to promote the creation of an environment in which schools designed according to the CES Common Principles can thrive. Among our advocacy efforts is National Exhibition Month, which takes place each May.
Essential Analysis
Essential Analysis provides schools with the tools to ask the right questions and engage in a process of meaningful data-based inquiry that can be used to drive school improvement efforts. On this site you will have the ability to take and analyze surveys on-line, to post your own survey or use one already created, to administer surveys to students, teachers, and parents. We also provide you with tools to engage in the cycle of data-based inquiry, to take the results from your surveys and use those results to drive your school improvement.

CES Affiliate Centers
Our 26 Affiliate Centers provide technical assistance to schools that have embraced the Common Principles. Each CES center is an independent organization with the autonomy to create services appropriate for the schools it serves. Directors and staff from CES centers meet regularly to exchange ideas and share resources. read on >>
